Emissions Equipment Removal Will Hurt Your Driving And Your Air Quality
Back in the day you could remove or alter emission control equipment to gain a little horsepower. A little carb tuning could actually give you a boost of 30 horsepower or more if done right. Unfortunately, we’re not in the 70s anymore and this is both unsafe and unnecessary. Your modern car has a powerful fuel injection system rather than an old-fashioned carburetor, and hundreds of computerized sensors that offer plenty of horsepower and meet emissions standards. If you modify your car to reduce these emissions controls, you’re likely going to mess with the sensors and won’t gain nearly as much horsepower as you would with an older engine. Just skip this alteration. It’s not worth the risk.
