1966 Ford Thunderbird From “Thelma and Louise”
Thelma and Louise was one of the first iconic road movies to feature women as the protagonists. At the beginning of the film, Louise (Susan Sarandon) and Thelma (Geena Davis) are two innocent girls looking for a weekend of fun. They take off in a 1966 Ford T-bird to start their adventure that quickly goes awry. Thunderbirds were Ford’s most popular luxury sports cars. Thelma’s car was a beautiful green convertible, and in fact, her model was the last year that Ford manufactured the Thunderbirds as convertibles. The T-bird made its biggest impact when the girls drive off the grand canyon while on the run from the police. For such an iconic vehicle, the director didn’t see the need for any customization at all, which likely made it all the more beloved in fans’ hearts.
