1963 Volkswagen Beetle From “The Love Bug”
Volkswagens definitely have a cult following. You either love them, or think they’re ridiculous. Though the Bug isn’t what you would call a muscle car, it was actually one of the fastest on the road in the late ’60s when Disney’s The Love Bug premiered. The movie was actually centered around a 1963 Beetle, “Herbie,” that is much more than racer Jim Douglas (Dean Jones) bargained for. The car seems to have a mind of its own, but Douglas doesn’t realize his winning streak is caused by Herbie until it’s almost too late. The same model appeared in the 1997 sequel as well as the 2005 spinoff, Herbie: Fully Loaded, starring Lindsay Lohan. This movie made Volkswagens recognizable to an even younger audience, breeding love for the cars for generations to come.
