The Tatra 603
This strange car was build in Czechoslovakia and was sold throughout Europe from the 1950s all the way into the 70s. Impressive considering the resume of communist production cars, and doubly impressive considering it looks like a detached boat pontoon. Though it didn’t have any major mechanical problems, the body panels just seem to go on forever.
Western media was difficult to come across in communist-era Czechoslovakia, and the look of this car conjures up images of a group of designers all coming to the table armed only with shreds of smuggled magazines from England and America and taping them all together.
