Cedric
The Cedric (not The Entertainer) was introduced in 1960 and despite the name has proven to be a popular car in Japan.
The Cedric has a literary connection, inspired by the main character, Cedric, in Frances Hodgson Burnett’s novel Little Lord Fauntleroy. Although the Nissan CEO at the time, Katsuji Kawamata, liked the association, it was probably not a big selling point for American consumers.
Offered in North America from 1960 until 2015 as a two-door coupe, or a four-door sedan/wagon/hardtop, the Cedric was supposed to be seen as upscale transportation.
In Japan, it was one of the cars in the Cedric/Gloria series, known as the CedGlo and it was a competitor of the Toyota Crown.
