With two electric motors in a stock transmission, buyers have their choice of going with manual or automatic (yes, even though it’s electric). Although it doesn’t look dramatically different from a traditional Corvette, the Genovation GXE has subtle styling differences and a complete lack of noise—very different from a gas-powered Corvette.
Getting from 0-60 in just 2.5 seconds, the Genovation GXE puts out 800 horsepower with 700 lb.-ft. of torque. It weighs 1,000 pounds more than a regular Grand Sport, coming in at 4,500 pounds.
However, don’t let its weight throw you off. It has perfect 50/50 weight distribution, which was achieved in part due to its battery placement. Five separate battery packs supply its energy, placed strategically to keep its center of gravity low. All the batteries provide enough power for 175 miles.
Top speed? A whopping 209 miles-per-hour, a lot faster than most electric vehicles on the road. And the Genovation GXE is street legal.
The rear was beefed up from the first generation with carbon fiber and an adjustable rear wing to optimize downforce. The wing was developed at the University of Maryland in their high-tech wind tunnel.
With a Lotuff leather and Alcantara interior, 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and a 10.4-inch touchscreen, there will be limited production of this car—only 75. Introduced at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, people are just now getting their hands on these gems.
