It’s hard to think that over a year ago Chevy unveiled their sixth-generation Camaro for 2019 with styling upgrades to its front end that customers disliked across the board.
Fortunately, the 2020 Camaro will be different. Chevy did away with the black bar that separated the upper and lower grilles and moved the bow-tie emblem to a better position. The new look is based on the Camaro Shock show car that debuted at SEMA Show in Las Vegas 2018 and got good reviews.
Director of Chevrolet Marketing Steve Majoros said, “Customers spoke, and we listened. The overwhelmingly positive reaction to the Shock’s stylized design helped prompt its transition from concept to production.”
Chevy is also adding a new LT1 trim level that gives customers access to V8 power at a lower price. The LT1 offers buyers what was previously only available in the Camaro SS for only $34,995, which is three thousand dollars cheaper than the least-expensive V8 2019 Camaro.
It’s also cheaper than the cheapest Ford Mustang. While it sacrifices some comfort to have a lower price, it does get the vented hood, 20-inch wheels, and an 8-inch infotainment system with Bose audio (with an optional technology package).
Chevy will also be adding a 10-speed automatic transmission for 3.6-liter V6 models, which previously had an 8-speed automatic. Manual options are also available on all engines.
What’s not yet clear is whether or not Chevy has changed the rear of the Camaro for 2020, and we don’t have pricing yet. We’re expecting more information this coming fall regarding the next-generation Camaro.
While General Motors is doing away with some of their cars, including the Volt, Cruze, and Impala, the Camaro is certainly safe for now.
