Hyundai Motors recently debuted the 2020 Hyundai Sonata – a grown-up, refreshed, four-door coupe.
The 2020 model year is the eighth generation of this midsize car, and it conveys Hyundai’s latest design concept: Sensuous Sportiness.
We first saw Sensuous Sportiness in the Le Fil Rouge concept that debuted at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show. It is defined as the “harmony between the four fundamental elements in vehicle design: proportion, architecture, styling and technology.”
According to Hyundai, the 2020 Sonata is “fully transformed” and destined to grab “immediate attention.”
Exterior
The exterior is undeniably sleek. It incorporates a sloping roofline, a low deck lid, and a layered long hood. Positioned front and center is the Digital Pulse Cascading Grille. It takes cues from sports-car design with an athletic yet elegant approach.
The 2020 Hyundai Sonata features a 30 mm lower ride height, a 25 mm wider width, and a 35 mm longer wheelbase. Its overall length is enlarged by 45 mm. As a result, the Sonata boasts a “balanced feel.”
Furthermore, the 2020 Sonata is the first Hyundai to integrate Hidden Lighting Lamps, Hyundai’s new-age term for daytime running lights. The HDC-2 concept car featured this lighting system at the Busan Motor Show last year.
Hyundai comments:Â “the light architecture defines the design identity of future Hyundai cars.” The thin headlights emit a lustrous illumination and border the upper ends of the grille. When off, they appear as a chromatic accent.
Interior
With inspiration from a Stealth aircraft, the interior of the Sonata features a streamlined design. The same exterior light architecture is prominent via the ambient mood lamp illuminating dashboard and doors.
The winged dashboard is efficiently compact. The infotainment panel sits above a slim layout of HVAC controls, and the Hyundai Sonata implements new capacitive-touch buttons for seamless usability. Satin chrome accents and light fabric colors adorn the cabin for a “fresh and freeing ambiance.”
Official details of the 2020 Hyundai Sonata will be provided at the New York Auto Show in April.
