Jaguar recently released details of the 2020 F-Type, and with it comes a few notable updates.

Manual Transmission Removed

The F-Type is a renowned sports car in its own right, but for 2020, Jaguar is pulling the plug on the manual transmission.

Although it may seem like a bold move for a sports car of this caliber, Jaguar has solid reasoning behind it—it’s simply not a hot commodity anymore. Since its first introduction in the vehicle in 2016, only about four percent of consumers have opted for it vs. the automatic transmission.

The manual transmission is no longer being offered in Canada either; it remains available only in the U.K.

New Limited Edition

Jaguar F-Type Checkered Flag Limited Edition

Probably the most intriguing update for the 2020 model year is the addition of the Checkered Flag Limited Edition. According to Jaguar, it “celebrates the brand’s rich sports car heritage dating back to the reveal of the XK 120 in 1948.”

Don’t expect it to look dated, however. The special edition is based on the F-Type R-Dynamic Coupe and Convertible and houses a four- or six-cylinder engine.

Highlights of this limited edition include 20-inch Gloss Black wheels, an Ebony Windsor leather interior, and red brake calipers. Checkered Flag branding is found inside and out. It starts at $72,925.

Pricing

Pricing increase is normal from model year to model year, and for 2020, the F-Type’s price tag increases moderately. The base model is up $880 from last year, and P340/P380 R-Dynamic trims are up $980. The R and SVR see a $980 increase over the previous model year.

The 2020 Jaguar F-Type comes complete with the Smartphone Pack, which bundles Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a front parking aid, and two new exterior colors: Eiger Grey and Portofino Blue.

Ian Callum, Jaguar Director of Design, sums the F-Type up in one cohesive sentence: “Perfect proportions, design purity and visual drama – every Jaguar must express these qualities, and none more so than F-TYPE.”

Convertible and Coupe F-Types will go on sale in the spring of 2019.
