The 1,000 horsepower club doesn’t have too many members. Bugatti practically founded the club and Koenigsegg has risen to fame by breaking their records. The two rivals sit on top of the hypercar market in a constant clutch for leadership.
Aside from them, just a handful of select vehicles have broken the 1,000 horsepower milestone.
- NextEV NIO EP9
- Zenvo TS1 GT
- Hennessey Venom F5 (not out yet)
Now, another British car manufacturer joins the elite club. Aston Martin released breathtaking videos of the V-12 engine which will power the Valkyrie – the company’s latest and most powerful vehicle.

The naturally aspirated, 6.5 liter, V-12 engine makes 1,000 hp at 10,500 rpm and cuts off at 11,100 rpm. Peak torque comes up to 546 lbs-ft (740 nm) at 7,000 rpm.
It’s not the most powerful engine and barely gets through the 1,000 hp club’s doors. However, the Valkyrie V-12 is the most powerful naturally aspirated engine in the world, continuing the tradition and taking over from Aston Martin One-77’s 750-hp V-12.
The new engine is co-developed by Cosworth and draws from a number of F1 technologies.
The engine weights just 454 lbs. The low weight is achieved by using titanium conrods, F1-graded pistons and a billet-machined crankshaft that’s 50% lighter than its predecessor.
And even though 1,000hp is the peak for the V-12, the Valkyrie will have even more power, courtesy of the Rimac hybrid system that is still kept in the dark.
