The Geneva Motor Show is right around the corner, and the rumors are hot surrounding the potential debut of the C8 “Zora” Corvette at the event.
Of course, this is all speculation—nothing has been confirmed by GM representatives. In fact, GM mentioned there are no plans for the Switzerland-based auto show.
However, the web being weaved indicates there’s a probability of it actually happening.
What Is the C8?
“C8” is the designation for Chevy’s next-generation Corvette. The (not so) secret is that the eighth generation will be a mid-engine model, forgoing the classic front-engine layout. The result? A more performance-oriented handling and appearance, that is actually what the original designer, Zora Arkus-Duntov, wanted for the car.
Albeit donned in camo, spy photos released throughout last year have been all over the internet hinting at the look of the next version of the C8.
Due to two distinctly cut lines at the top, a targa roof is expected. Patent applications were also discovered, revealing an engine cover designed to aid cooling, a clutch-by-wire system, and power-opening doors.
Debut News
According to Corvette Online, a number of GM’s mid-engine Corvette prototypes are getting flown in for a special appearance at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. The event takes place March 7-10 in Florida, just a day after the Geneva Motor Show concludes.
Rumor has it that GM will unveil the C8 first at the Geneva Motor Show. Afterwards, it will be displayed in Florida, alongside its fellow mid-engine Corvettes. Maybe.
However, according to GM Authority:
“a major auto show will not star the debut of the highly anticipated sports car. Instead, look for the mid-engine Corvette to have its own standalone reveal.”
While the Geneva Motor Show is technically an auto show, the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance is not. Could it be the perfect location for the “standalone reveal” moment that GM is hoping for?
As of yet, there is no concrete information regarding the debut of the C8. But why else would GM display its mid-engine Corvette lineup if not to promote the C8?
Keep an eye out on the Geneva Motor Show and Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance—the C8 might just be in attendance.
