Red Means Stop

Have you ever been distracted by something and accidentally found yourself running a red light? Traffic accidents caused by running a red light are often very serious or even fatal because drivers did not reduce speed before entering the intersection.
Side impact collisions [“t-bones”] often result from running red lights. In 2015 the NHTSA announced that in a 10 year period almost 8,000 people were killed due to drivers running red lights. Cameras at intersections have recorded an increase in red lights being run in the afternoons and on Fridays.
Generally, the best approach is to slow down when entering an intersection, even if the light is green. That shortens the time for stopping, in case the light turns red as you get to the intersection.
