According to the National Safety Council, drivers who use cell phones while driving account for 1.6 million accidents every year. As Americans increasingly become more absorbed by their smartphones, the number of accidents caused by drivers distracted by their phones is on the rise.

Texting is a huge issue in causing car accidents. When a driver is texting there are actually three distractions: cognitive, manual, and visual. Many states have now passed laws making it illegal to text while driving. Texting while driving causes almost 400,000 injuries per year – nearly six times more accidents are caused by texting than by driving under the influence of alcohol. Some statistics claim that nearly 35% of teenagers text while driving, despite knowing that it causes accidents.
