The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 will finally be revealed on July 18th after months (years?) of camo-wrapped speculation. As we approach the final month before the launch, Corvette fans are trembling in anticipation.
Most of us keep the fire going by speculating about the powertrain options, performance levels and whether or not the ECU will be locked off.
In the meantime, a person named Charles Cronley has been continuosly reverse engineering the Corvette’s exterior and interior design based on spy shots.
Best known by his forum handle, Chazcron is spending serious time 3D modeling and rendering various versions of the C8 Corvette.
Chazcron has put in more than 500 hours deconstructing various spy shots and footage floating around the web to create photorealistic images and videos of the C8.
He went as far as transplanting the 3D model into live footage of his driveway, creating the best walkaround of the car we have available, albeit virtual.
With GM maintaining radio silence, the folks at MidEngineCorvetteForum have turned to Chazcron and a couple of other graphic designers for their daily share of [SFW] Corvette porn.
Here’s how he commented on his work:
Thanks, guys. It is a great hobby and a labor of love. I posted to my Facebook and Instagram, facetiously calling it “my new Corvette” and my cousin asked me if I was bringing it up this summer. I said it only carries two virtual golf bags.
His latest work focuses on the interior of the C8. His only reference material are several spy shots, published by Carscoops in January – no dimensions, sketches or anything remotely useful to extract measurements from.
The most notable feature in the car’s interior is the angled divider on the right side of the central console. We’ve yet to see how it looks in the real car, but right now it looks a bit awkward. With the dashboard, infotainment screen and central console pointed at the driver, the divider kind of isolates the passenger.
Even though we can’t objectively judge his accuracy, Chazcron’s work is mighty impressive.
