What do you do when you have manufacturing skills, design experience and a passion for classic muscle cars? You build your own. Especially if you’re Dmitry.
Dmitry and his brother took a 1984 Pontiac Firebird, ripped it apart and built the muscle car of their dreams. If we never included the model name, you likely never would have guessed it was a Firebird. Neither did we.
That’s because Dmitry hand-built each of the body panels that went into his car. Inspired by muscle cars of the 60s and 70s, he took the best from popular models to create an elegant and sporty retro coupe.
The profile outline is an exaggerated version of the 1984 Pontiac Firebird. Other features from the original include the pointy nose, windshield and trapezoidal taillight panel.
The recessed front grill resembles a 1968 Dodge Charger. The gills and double headlights are possibly inspired by the 1971 Plymouth Barracuda. And the black hood scoops reminds us of a 1971 Ford Mustang Fastback.
The rear window, deck, and quarter panels car look like a mix of the Fastback and 1978 Ford Falcon Cobra.
The interior is also unique with a hand built custom dashboard, central console, door panels, and header.
Custom kit cars are nothing new. But, what really impressed us about this custom Firebird is the craftsmanship.
The design has great proportions. It strikes a good balance between smooth continuous shapes and detailed features. The panels are well connected with even gaps and matching lines throughout the vehicle.
And, all of it is beautifully painted in a metallic blue with a thin bright yellow stripe and matte black features. Finally, the blue and silver turbine wheels add the finishing touch.
The end result is a top-notch muscle car you’d expect from a high-end custom vehicle shop – not two brothers in their spare time. It took 7 years to build the car.
Dmitry replaced the original 2.8-liter V6 engine with a Chevrolet LT-1 350 – a 5.7-liter, small-block, V8 engine. While we don’t have specific numbers, the power output should be at least double that of the original engine. An automatic transmission complete the powertrain.
This custom 1984 Pontiac Firebird is currently up for sale on Craigslist for $45,000. It’s a pretty big sum, but the craftsmanship really shows and Dmitry’s effort and passion should not be disregarded.
Furthermore, the car comes with all fiberglass molds required to re-manufacture any of the body panels. When buying a custom kit car, you really want to be able to replace a damaged part in the future.
