Since its launch in 2017, Dodge Challenger SRT Demon became a smashing success on drag strips all around the country, taking a number of titles:
- First production car to perform a wheelie
- Fastest non-electric production car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph – 2.3 seconds
- Hardest launching production car – 1.8Gs of acceleration at launch
Even though the car is now out of production, FCA’s ultimate muscle car just keeps on giving. Last month, a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon successfully reached a new top speed record – 211 mph.
That’s a supercar top speed right there. And though the Challenger will never be any good around the track, in a straight line, it can go as fast as a 2019 McLaren Senna.
The default Nitto Tires are designed to meet road regulations and provide maximum grip and acceleration on the drag strip. The problem is, they can only withstand speeds up to 168 mph, which is why the Demon comes with an electronic limiter to prevent potential accidents.
However, the car can go much faster. With just a tire swap and the Powertrain Control Module from the Demon Crate installed, the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 can unleash all of its 840 horsepower.
Combine that with perfect atmospheric conditions, virtually no elevation and a space-grade runway, and the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon was able to reach 211 mph.
The high-speed test was conducted at Johnny Böhmer Proving Grounds using one of the longest runways in the world – Space Florida’s Launch and Landing Facility. At 3.2 miles of length and 300 feet wide, this runway was previously used by the Space Shuttle programme.
