This Audi RS7 is literally a James Bond car. It’s super fast, it’s bulletproof and it has an array of functional defense gadgets, making it a mobile fortress – one that can move at 202 mph.
Normally, when you think of an armored car, you’d imagine a big and heavy executive class vehicle or an SUV – something that can carry the additional layers of protection and make its way across unconventional terrain or obstacles. A tank in disguise.
A new take on the armored vehicle – lighter and faster
AddArmor wanted to present a different perspective – a lightweight, high-performance sports car that can speed away from a heated situation and outpace pursuers with ease.
So, they chose an Audi RS7 as a base for their new project. It’s the highest tier of performance available on Audi’s A7 sedan.
It’s powered by a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine which makes 597 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque if you get the Performance edition.
There’s plenty of power from the factory, but AddArmor also opted for an ECU tuning module by APR. With the additional tune, the engine generates jaw-dropping 760 horsepower.
Thanks to Audi’s 8th-speed Tiptronic transmission and Quattro all-wheel-drive system with a center locking differential, all of the power goes efficiently to all four wheels, producing break-neck acceleration.
Even with the added weight, the AddArmor Audi RS7 APR will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and go as fast as 202 mph.
Cutting edge shielding technology
The vehicle is able to show off such incredible performance thanks to AddArmor’s lightweight protection technology.
Instead of thick and heavy steel plates, the company uses a composite material made from acrylic, polycarbonate and leaded glass. AddArmor claims the added protection around the Audi RS7 weighs no more than 200 pounds.
The material works thanks to a process called controlled de-lamination. Multiple layers of glass and acrylic slow down the bullet and disperse its energy while slowly peeling away. The passenger side is protected by an elastic layer of polycarbonate, which prevents any chips from flying in.
Compared to ballistic steel, the material is 60% lighter and 10 times more effective.
From the video, it does look like continuous firing will eventually deplete the material and penetrate through. However, a good driver should be able to put serious distance between the attackers and their target by the time it happens.
There are several options for the thickness and strength with the highest B7 class stopping armor piercing and sniper rifle bullets.
Movie-like defense features
If that’s not enough, AddArmor has equipped the Audi RS7 APR with a large array of protective features, which will defer your attackers and give you a chance to escape.
- Electric shock door handles
- Pepper spray dispensers on the sides
- Tear gas dispensers
- Smokescreen system at the back
- Frequency jammer to disable drones and remote guided equipment
- Gas detection system with positive pressure cabin preventing poison attacks
- 360-degree night vision camera
- Run-flat tires
Last but not least, these a 24/7 connection to an emergency operator, who will help you escape and coordinate with emergency services to stop your attacker and prevent loss of life.
Of course, if you have money to spend, AddArmor can add additional features like gun ports, sound cannons, and customize the interior with any luxury or comfort item you want.
