The Germans have done it. What you see in the video above is officially the fastest VW Golf in the world.
The car accelerates from 0-62mph in 1.66 seconds, goes a ¼ mile in 8.267 seconds and achieves a top speed north of 230 mph.
It’s a custom built 1989 VW Golf Mk2 by German auto shop Boba Motoring with the help of Extreme Tuners and NG-Motorsports.
It’s powered by a 2.0-liter 16V Turbo ABF engine. A special CNC-ported cylinder head and a custom GTX42 Extreme Tuners turbocharger develop a staggering 64psi of boost. Although it runs on E85, it takes a diesel block, forged pistons and billet machined crankshaft to withstand the immense pressures at full throttle. This allows the small inline-4 engine to generate 1233 horsepower and 806 lbs/ft of torque.
The numbers are beyond absurd, and with a dry weight of 2557 lbs, the Golf shoots straight into hypercar territory.
The engine mates to a 6-speed DSG transmission with an ECU by Extreme Tuning. Completing the powertrain is Volkswagen’s 4Motion system with a Haldex Traction clutch, intelligently distributing torque to all wheels.
What’s more? This car is street legal. It comes with a street mode, cutting power down to a manageable 220hp. It lacks comfort features, but it can shred just about any other car on the drag strip.
Just look at that big honest smile at the end of the video. That’s the smile of a man who’s worked his hardest. And, when he finally achieves success, it’s a heartwarming moment.
