Ford to Keep Making Bullitt Mustangs

The Ford Mustang Bullitt was originally only supposed to be available for one year—but sales have been so strong that Ford has decided to extend the production of the Bullitt into 2020.

Originally built in 2018 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Steve McQueen’s GT in the movie Bullitt, Ford was inspired to build a Mustang that was a tribute to the original car.

The 2019 model is actually the third generation Bullitt to be sold, according to Ford, who notes that previous versions were sold in 2001 and 2008.

The current Mustang Bullitt features 475 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque in a 5.0-liter engine. The car only comes in a six-speed manual and has a cue ball shifter knob, a great tribute to McQueen’s original Bullitt.

The car comes in a dark green color (called Dark Highland Green) and Shadow Black with modest chrome features on the outer wheels, grille, and windows. The Bullitt has minimal badging in honor of the original car and shares the same equipment with the Mustang GT Premium, according to Ford.

However, the current Bullitt has some features that the car in the 1968 movie never did. The 2019 Mustang Bullitt comes with a live wi-fi hotspot, optional Recaro sport seats, and traffic updates via FordPass Connect.

The current generation Bullitt starts at just over $46,500. So if you weren’t able to get your hands on one of these limited-edition Mustangs, you’ll have a chance to get yours for the 2020 model year, unless Ford says they’ll continue to produce this much-loved sports car.
