John Hennessy, the owner of Hennessy Performance Engineering in Sealy, Texas, is doing something big with his own McLaren 600LT.
Top Gear reports that John Hennessy plans to increase his McLaren’s horsepower from the standard 592 to over 1,000.
The goal is to increase the McLaren’s horsepower enough to compete with the McLaren Speedtail, which has a top speed of 250 mph. The Speedtail’s horsepower comes in a bit over Hennessy’s modified 600LT at 1,035.
However, the Speedtail boasts a 12.8-second time to get to 300km/hr, which is roughly 186 mph.
Fortunately for Hennessy, he’s only hoping to compete to 150 mph, as the Speedtail would undoubtedly crush his 600LT after that point with its all carbon-fiber body.
Hennessy has been a vocal fan of McLaren’s vehicles, calling them “the best supercars in the world right now”. Although Hennessy was impressed with his 600LT from McLaren, his logic is that he liked it so much that wanted to make it faster and with more power. Really, who can blame him?
In an attempt to bring the horsepower up, Hennessy shares they’ll be adding one of their own HPE1000 kits to the car and adding their own turbo headers (stainless steel, of course). The auto tuner will be adding all this to the upgraded air filters, turbos, transmission, and exhaust on the McLaren 600LT.
The plan is that the final product would have 1,001 horsepower, 865 lb.-ft. of torque, and get to 60 mph in a mere 2.1 seconds.
Should we say watch out, Speedtail?
