The all-electric 2020 Porsche Taycan is the brandās first of several EVs planned for release over the next few years. It will see global release at the Frankfurt Auto Show held between September 12 to the 21st of 2019.
A four-door coupe, the Taycan is designed to provide a real counterpoint to competitors such as the Jaguar I-Pace, Mercedes EQC, Ā and Audi E-Tron GT. The 2020 Taycan looks very similar to the Mission E concept which preceded it.
It is built on VWās MEB frame which is also used in the Audi E-Tron GT. The combination of styling and performance of the Taycan EV place it comfortably alongside its Porsche peers the Panamera and 911. The car has recently completed a rigorous regimen of extreme international testing to prove its mettle.
The All-Electric Porsche Taycan is a Grand Touring EV
āAfter carrying out computer simulations and comprehensive bench tests early on, we have now reached the final phase of this demanding testing programme,ā underlines the vice president of the model line, Stefan Weckbach.
āBefore the Taycan is launched on the market at the end of the year, we will have covered approximately six million kilometres across the globe. We are already very happy with the current status of the vehicles. The Taycan is going to be a true Porsche.ā
The Taycan has a similar design language and silhouette as the Panamera. It is a bit more sleek and refined, however, a clear evolution and synthesis of other design elements such as the wide-body look of the 911. The Taycan has no air intake sections and is accented with slim LED lights in the front and rear.
Double EV Motors Provide Ample Power
The 2020 Porsche Taycan is driven by two permanently activated synchronous motors. Each placed on an axle, these EV motors produce up to 592 brake horsepower. The Taycan can cover a range up to 310 miles on a single charge. It can reach a 0-60 mph sprint in under 3.2 seconds and 120 mph in less than 12 seconds.
Porsche is investing heavily in a future of electric mobility. The company has targeted over $6.5 billion towards electromobility by 2022. This more than twice as much as the company had planned to spend. The increase is coming as part of an EV renaissance in technology which is invigorating innovation across the brand.

The Porsche Taycan is the Evolution of Electromobility
The extra $3 billion Porsche is targeting to electromobility will be used to develop additional Taycan variants and successors, an EV hybridization of the existing Porsche lineup, expansion of global production, research into new technologies, charging infrastructure, and smart mobility solutions. .
The 2020 Porsche Taycan will have an entry level price of about $90,000. The top trim will cost about $130,000 and up. This places it directly in the range of the Tesla Model S which starts at $75,000 with a $122,000 upper trim available with autopilot.
One of the key innovations driving the Porsche Taycan is the use of an 800-volt EV charging system. It can deliver 62 miles of range in under 4 seconds of charging time.

The All-Electric Porsche Taycan is one of 2020’s Most Anticipated Cars
“More than half of the people that are signing up for the Taycan have not owned or do not own a Porsche,” said Porsche North America CEO Klaus Zellmer.Ā “Typically, if we look at our source of business, people coming from other brands, it’s Audi, BMW, or Mercedes. The no. 1 brand now isĀ Tesla. That’s pretty interesting, to see that people that were curious about the Tesla for very good reasons obviously don’t stop being curious.”
