Mercedes-AMG Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain Set to Outperform a V12
The powerful engine configuration AMG first showed with its GT Concept back in 2017 is similar to the forthcoming design. A twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V8 will provide rear wheel drive with a set of electric motors pushing the front wheels. The company believes its latest EV-hybrid all-wheel drive engine well far outperform previous versions.
The company has yet to release full specs about the hybrid plugin’s battery storage system. Nonetheless, the powertrain is expected to offer a brutal 805 horsepower.
We don’t know anything about the battery system yet, but the preliminary numbers are impressive. The system’s total output will check in at about 805 horsepower.
Top accelerations of 0-60 mph will be possible with the forthcoming AMG GT73 four-door sedan in well under 3 seconds. Full electric driving is expected to be possible for up to about 33 miles.
This latest iteration of the AMG powertrain is likely to reach drivers across the 2020 and 2021 model year. These innovations are expected to be carried over to the S-Class and G-Class as well.

Daimler Committed to the Future of Electromobility
Daimler is invested heavily in the future of electromobility. New CEO Ola Kallenius recently reaffirmed this:
“The cost structure of the electric car is above that of the combustion engine car. We are working hard on lowering this,” Kallenius said on Monday.
Daimler has forged cooperative partnerships with brands such as the BMW Group, Renault, Â and Nissan. It hopes to improve the economies of scale related to the production of electric vehicles.
Currently, electric batteries contain lithium, cobalt, nickel, manganese and other rare earth minerals. Daimler is at the forefront of research into how to better configure electro mobility products that are truly sustainable in the long run.
The company hopes to be entirely carbon neutral across its product line by 2039 carbon neutral by 2039.
To make this happen, Daimler hopes to continue to release innovation electric and hybrid vehicles. The Mercedes AMG plug-in hybrid powertrain is a sign of this continued evolution.
