Not many details have leaked about the new, upcoming Need for Speed video game, set to be released later this year. Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson made one thing clear – the new game will return to its roots – and the street racers vs. cops theme that made the game such a hit.
Originally debuting back in 1994 and being featured on platforms such as Microsoft Windows, Android, X-Box, Playstation among many others, Need for Speed is one of the most popular driving video game series in the world. Many entries in the Need for Speed series have remained true to the original game’s concept while others have deviated to feature more realism and driving experiences on tracks such as Nürburgring and the Laguna Seca.

Wilson made it clear that the new Need for Speed game would return to the street racing theme which made the game such a success in the first place. Players will have the chance to drive and tune up some of the world’s coolest rides with playmodes available as both street racers and law enforcement officers.
Wilson said the newest Need for Speed video game would  be, “revitalizing the street racer vs. cops fantasy at the core of the franchise.”

Despite being one of the original and most well known racing simulation, in the eyes of many fans, Need for Speed has fallen off in recent years. Though versions such as Need for Speed: Underground and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit are considered genre defining classics, more recent entries such as Need for Speed: Payback were reviewed by many to be quite mediocre.
Electronic Arts is betting that the newest Need for Speed will be a profit vehicle once again. The company recently released sales projections for 2019 which include a target to sell 4 million copies of the newest Need for Speed.
