This treasure was found amongst the many classic cars listed for sale on Hemmings.com. It’s a 1974 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. It has received professional restoration and upgrades and has been meticulously cared for by its owner for the last 25 years.
After Hemmings featured it in their Find of the Day section, it sold in two days for $18,500. Considering how much love went into this beauty, we call that a steal.
It all started when a customer traded it into a Chevrolet dealership in the mid 90’s. It had no modifications, 25,000 miles on the dash and was in good condition. The dealer was so impressed, he kept it for himself and made it the dealership’s project car.
The dealer spared no expense, put his best mechanics to work on the car and had them order the highest quality GM parts that normal folk wouldn’t really have access to.
The old engine was replaced it with a NASCAR specced V8 unit. The new engine has a Holley carburetor, Edelbrock intake, aluminum flywheel and produces more than 400 horsepower on the dyno.
It wasn’t the highest powered muscle back in the day, but with the racing engine and the 4-speed manual transmission, the Z28 will definitelly go.
To handle the extra power, the Camaro received upgraded brakes, new suspension bushings, and gas-filled shocks.
One of the few non-original parts was the exhaust system. It was custom fabricated with a 3-inch pipe, large diameter Flowmaster muffler and ceramic coated Hooker headers.
The Camaro turned into a showpiece, but one that you could just get into and drive ocean to ocean. It keeps its original paint and even though it’s started to show it’s age here and there, it still looks absolutely gorgeous.
Inside, the dealer removed the central console and fitted a new wraparound carpet, but kept modifications to a minimum.
