The Porsche 911 GT2 RS is a very special car – rarely does a manufacturer resume production after the end of a car’s lifetime. But when Grande America sank with the last four GT2 RS units en route to Brazil, Porsche immediately restarted the production line to build them for their customers. That means something.
The GT2 RS is the fastest and most powerful production vehicle Porsche ever built. Even though it’s an older model, it has the same top speed as the 2019 McLaren Senna – 211 mph.
In the video below, you’ll see one being tested at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds.
Here are the stats:
- 0 – 60 mph – less than 3 seconds ~ 0.8 Gs of acceleration at launch
- 0 – 100 mph – 6 seconds ~ 0.5 Gs to 100 mph
- 0 – 211 mph – 51 seconds, within 2.7 miles
That’s 8 seconds faster than the more powerful, but heavier and less aerodynamic Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, which made its record run earlier in March.
McLaren Senna already proved it’s the fastest around the track at Silverstone – beating not only the 911 GT2 RS, but also a Lamborghini SVJ and a Ferrari 488 Pista. However, comparing top speeds may be a lot closer than we think.
Although Porsche’s GT2 RS has 100 horsepower less than the Senna, most other relevant metrics are similar.
Porsche’s 3.8-liter, twin-turbocharged, 6-cylinder boxer engine produces 690 horsepower and 553 lbs-ft of torque. It’s mated to a 7-speed PDK transmission sending the power to the rear wheels only. The whole package has a curb weight of 3,241 lbs.
We’re hoping a Senna makes its way to the Proving Grounds soon, so we can settle the debate.
