Porsche announced today that the next generation of its Macan SUV will be fully electric. This would make the Macan the first completely electric compact SUV from Porsche.
Porsche is expected to release their first all-electric sports car, the Taycan, at the end of this year, so we’re not surprised Porsche is about to launch an SUV with an all-electric drivetrain.

Oliver Blume, the Chairman of the Board of Management of Porsche AG, shared that by 2022, Porsche will be investing more than 6 billion euros in electric vehicles and by 2025, half of all new Porsches could have an electric drivetrain.
“Nevertheless, over the next ten years we will focus on a drive mix consisting of even further optimized petrol engines, plug-in hybrid models, and purely electrically operated sports cars. Our aim is to take a pioneering role in technology, and for this reason we will continue to consistently align the company with the mobility of the future,” Blume shared on Porsche’s Newsroom website.

The next generation of the Macan will be manufactured at the company’s Leipzig factory in Germany. Its Leipzig manufacturing site boasts one of the most advanced yet sustainable production facilities in the industry, so it’s no wonder Porsche chose this location to manufacture its first completely electric SUV.
Porsche envisions the next-generation Macan as the forerunner for its oncoming fleet of increasingly electric vehicles. The compact SUV will have an 800-volt charging system and is based on the Porsche PPE—Premium Platform Electric—developed in collaboration with Audi AG.
When will be seeing this electric beast? Porsche says the Macan is due to come off the assembly line sometime next year. We’ll certainly have our eye out for this one.
