German-based automaker Porsche is renowned for building luxury performance vehicles, and for 2019, they are making another big addition to their growing list of high-performance sports cars. The widely popular Porsche Cayman and Boxster are getting lighter, stripped down versions for enthusiastic drivers.
The Stuttgart-based company is launching two new T performance variants of its iconic 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman. Porsche says both models gain the T designation in their names, which stands for Touring. The letter T designation is used by Porsche to denote “dynamic driving performance.”
What to expect from the new T performance variants
Both the 718 Boxster T and Cayman T models will retain the 300hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo Boxer engine of the standard Cayman and Boxster models. The new T performance variants will feature a six-speed manual gearbox along with the PASM sports chassis. The engine will be capable of producing 280 lb of torque, allowing both models to hit 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds, and a top speed of over 171 mph.
Some of big additions include a new dynamic gearbox alongside the active drivetrain mounts. This will increase precision and stability for the new models, the company said.
Additionally, both models, the Boxster and Cayman 718 T variants, will be equipped with the Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) chassis aid, which also includes a mechanical rear axle differential lock. Buyers may also request an order for the optional dual-clutch transmission (PDK).
As for the interior, these will include unique trim featuring black door pulls in the panel and adjustable sports seats with the 718 logos embroidered on the headrest. There’s also a 360 mm GT steering wheel, with Boxster or Cayman logos.
To save weight and space, Porsche has decided to replace the infotainment system with a storage compartment bin. However, buyers can still specify it as a no-cost option.
As for the price tag, Porsche says the “T” versions of these cars will be 5-10% less than the standard basic model price.
