Porsche, the iconic German car maker, is preparing for the production of its very first all-electric vehicle. The new electric vehicle, which will be called Taycan, will give Porsche a beachhead in the hotly contested EV market. More importantly, it will give Porsche some fresh and new market for growth, another source of revenue for the German firm.
First introduced to the public as the Mission E sedan, the Porsche Taycan is expected to be released sometime in 2019. This week, Porsche released a new teaser for its upcoming first all-electric vehicle. The new teaser, which was released to the public in the form of instructional video, also tells us how to pronounce ‘Taycan’ correctly. In the teaser, Porsche notes that the correct pronunciation of their upcoming electric vehicle is “Tie-con” and not “Tei-ken.”

What to expect from the new Taycan
Porsche’s upcoming all-electric vehicle has created tons of buzz and attracted a lot of interest from the EV community. Unfortunately, the upcoming car has one big issue — it’s weird name Taycan is proving to be a pain to pronounce for some car enthusiasts. To address this issue, the German automaker has decided to release a new teaser about the upcoming all-electric vehicle, detailing everything about the new car.
In the newly released teaser, the crowd will get a glimpse of the mysterious Taycan, which still heavily camouflaged. Porsche said that it wants to keep the production design fairly close to what the people have seen in the Porsche’s Mission E concept. The new car is expected to be updated in the production stage.
The upcoming all-electric vehicle is expected to have a range of over 250 miles. But the car’s most impressive feature and perhaps its main strength is the 800-volt system, which allows a charge rate of up to 350 kW or 80 percent in just 15 minutes.
Porsche also explains that it decided to pick the name “Taycan,” which translates to “lively young horse,” because the name is a significant nod to the rearing steed in Porsche’s iconic symbol. The German automaker plans to bring its new all-electric vehicle to production by next year.
Porsche prepares for Taycan production, gets a new electric truck
Porsche is gearing up for the Taycan production. The company has already commissioned a fully electric by MAN to deliver parts and provides logistical support for the production of the new all-electric vehicle.
The German-based automaker will be among the very first to use the brand new MAN eTGM truck, a 26-ton all-electric distribution truck. This monster truck features a motor with 264 kW power, which makes it possible for the truck to cover a range of around 130 km.
Porsche said that the truck’s range will be good enough to cover the brutal 19-kilometer stretch between the Porsche’s Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen plant and the Freiberg am Necker site, which reportedly operated by Porsche’s logistic partner LGI.
