Macan Drives Best Year Ever for Porsche

Porsche AG just announced that it sold 256,255 vehicles worldwide in 2018. This represents 4% year over year growth for the company.

The Panamera saw the strongest growth of any model with a 38% increase over last year, finally topping out at 38,443 models delivered.

The iconic 911 saw a 10% uptick in sales with over 35,000 models sold around the world.

“The capacity of the 911 to fascinate is stronger than ever,” said Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board responsible for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG. “We just celebrated the world premiere of the new 911 992 at the end of the year at the Los Angeles Auto Show, and yet our sports car icon once again inspired more customers in 2018 than in the previous year.”

The Porsche Macan was a very important element of the brand’s success in 2018. With 86,031 Macans sold around the world, the compact SUV was the German company’s top selling model of 2018.

2019 Macan: Porsche’s best selling car in the United States

Back in 2003 when the Porsche Cayenne first debuted, it was a shocking concept to behold. At that time, it was not commonplace for the world’s most luxurious high end automakers to release sleek and sophisticated SUVs.

Times have changed, and while the mere concept of such a family-friendly and utilitarian vehicle from a company like Porsche may have seemed like quite the risk, its turned out to payoff big time.

The Porsche Macan has received tons of praise for both its asphalt and its off-road handling potential, creature comforts, and healthy balance of sporty and family friendly details.

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. recently released its 2018 sales numbers and the Porsche Macan took first place in the extremely important U.S. domestic market.

The Porsche Macan was far and away the most successful car the German automaker sold to U.S. drivers. With 23,500 cars sold in 2018, representing a 9.7% increase over last year.

From Germany with Love

With 57,202 Porsche’s sold in the United States during 2018, Porsche was pleased to post 3.2% growth over last year. It was the ninth consecutive year of growth for PCNA and the seventh record year in a row.

Porsche calls its compact SUV Macan “a super sportster” and drivers around the world seem to be loving it.

“Porsche and our 190 independent U.S. dealer partners are grateful for the excitement our cars are generating among customers,” said Klaus Zellmer, President and CEO of PCNA. “A record 2018 is an excellent starting point for an even more dynamic 2019, when highlights will include the market entry of the next-generation 911, the updated Macan, and the launch of our first all-electric sports car, the Taycan, late in the year.”
