Porsche Taycan Will Charge Faster than Tesla’s Model S

Porsche Taycan

Porsche is doing something a little different later this year.

With the rise of electric vehicles, Porsche is fully on board to cater to a new audience of eco-friendly buyers, or just people who want to see what an electric Porsche is all about.

Porsche’s all-electric 4-door sedan, the Taycan, is scheduled to be released in late 2019 and is actually giving Tesla something to think about.

Faster Charging than Tesla’s Model S

When buying electric, people are more concerned about the charge the car will hold rather than making it from 0-60 in record time.

Which is one reason Porsche’s Taycan will charge 60 miles in just 4 minutes while Tesla’s Model S charges 170 miles in 30 minutes.

This means that the Taycan would charge nearly three times faster than the Model S.

Porsche is making a smart move towards buyers who want to go electric but are understandably concerned about it taking so much longer to charge than putting gas in the tank.

So, since the Taycan can hold a pretty hefty charge in less than 5 minutes as the result of an 800-volt battery, buyers have more reason than ever to be on board with an electric Porsche.

Porsche Is Appealing to New Buyers

Porsche is making a move for people who want a luxury electric vehicle and may not yet own a Porsche.

Despite the fact that the vast majority of electric car charging happens at home, Porsche still wants to make sure people feel comfortable making the switch to an electric vehicle.

Buyers of Porsche’s all-electric Taycan will get three years of free charging at stations. 120 Porsche dealerships will offer charging stations in 2020 and 300 highway charging stations will be in the works or completed by July 1, 2019.

Porsche is hoping to reassure buyers of the Taycan by offering these charging amenities and promises to build charging stations into many of its dealerships, reducing the fear people have of getting stranded without a charge.

Specs and Pricing

Although we don’t have pricing for the Taycan yet, auto enthusiasts speculate its base price will start higher than the Tesla Model S, which starts at $78,000 – because, well, it’s a Porsche.

The Taycan is expected to have over 600 horsepower and—don’t worry—will make it to over 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

In addition, buyers can expect Porsche’s all-electric sedan to get 310 miles before it runs out of battery. Although this is still short of the Model S’ 335-mile range, it’s certainly comparable, especially considering the faster charge time.

Porsche is responding to increased demand for the Taycan and is expected to produce 40,000 vehicles as opposed to the originally planned 20,000.

Interested buyers in the U.S have already paid a deposit for the Taycan.

An Electric Future for Porsche

The Taycan is just the beginning for Porsche, which plans to spend nearly 7 billion on making over half of their vehicles electric by 2025.
