A Case Of Leaky Corrosion
Ford has dealt with numerous recalls, but the company’s most recent mishap occurred in 2005. The cruise controls on Ford SUVs and pickup trucks overheated. Ford is no stranger to cruise control issues and has issued cruise control recalls before. After additional inspection, Ford discovered that brake fluid leaked into the electrical parts of the cruise control and caused corrosion in these SUVs.
This corrosion resulted in excess currents that sparked misfiring and overheating. Thankfully, customers could return the car to a dealership to get it fixed. Mechanics corrected the issue by using a jumper harness between the deactivation switch of the cruise control and the cruise mechanism. The harness functions as a circuit breaker that shuts down the current flow if the switch encounters complications.
