The automotive world is buzzing about the first pickup truck (since 1992’s Comanche) to grace the Jeep collection. The Gladiator – a Jeep pickup much like the Wrangler — will officially debut in 2019, after much anticipation. The entire Jeep lineup is getting a makeover, and like other new models, aluminum constructions lightens the weight— although the frame will still be steel. The powertrain will include four-cylinder and V6 engines, and a diesel option may be offered, too.
The Gladiator seeks to be a contender in both the 4×4 and truck worlds. The company claims it can ford as many as 30 inches of water. Other options include rear and front third-generation Dana 44 axles, Tru-lock electric front, and rear axle lockers, Command-Trac and Rock-Trac 4×4 systems, a Trac-Lok limited slip differential, and an electronic sway bar disconnect.
With its visually distinctive styling, the new Gladiator will look right at home in the truck and off-road arenas.
