This Lambo’s only Job is to Guide Planes at this Italian Airport

Just in case you haven’t been to Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport in Italy recently, the airport got a new “follow me” car that guides planes around.

What’s so special about that, you ask? Well, it’s a Lamborghini Huracan.

Yup, the 5.2-liter, naturally-aspirated V10 engine on the LP 580-2 RWD model has one job: and that’s to tell planes where to go before they take off and after they land. While this is a more important job than it sounds, there’s no doubt this Lamborghini makes the driver take his or her job even more seriously.

The Huracan features 572 horsepower and 398 lb.-ft. of torque, which is a little less than the AWD model. The car also weighs a bit less than the AWD version, coming in at 3062 pounds.

This isn’t the first time Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport has seen a Lamborghini as a “follow me” car. Other Lambos have been seen guiding planes around this airport in 2016, 2017, and 2018, with different paint jobs.

The current Huracan’s color scheme features a matte gray with yellow accents, presumably to make it easier to spot on the runway (although we’re guessing the pilots don’t need too much help spotting a Lamborghini on the runway). It even has a light bar on the roof.

So who’s actually driving this car? An aircraft ground control marshal is, presumably like the one in this Instagram post. Who wouldn’t want that job?

It seems fitting that a Lamborghini should guide planes given that the Italian automaker is known for getting their design inspiration from aircraft. While we’re not sure how long it’ll hang out at the airport, travelers don’t have to spot this particular Lamborghini to get a glimpse of Italian luxury—the airport also boasts an Aventador SVJ and a Urus on display inside.
