This Restored 1970 Dodge Charger Is a Tribute to Daytona

While he didn’t have a Dodge Daytona, Robert Masi did have a 1970 Dodge Charger, and he decided to restore the car to look and function more like a vintage Charger Daytona.

How did he do this? Well, for starters, he put a Hellcat engine in it—a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 Hemi to be exact, which is rated for 707 horsepower.

The restoration of this 1970 Dodge Charger was posted on a Facebook group.

He finished the car in a color called Intense Blue Pearl and posted the images on a Facebook thread, saying he originally restored the car in 2000 with authentic reproduction parts used to create its vintage Daytona look and feel.

Apparently, Masi actually sold the car after restoring it—and then bought it back to finish what he started. He added the Hellcat engine, new wheels, and says he performed all the work himself (he’s reportedly the owner of Masi’s Musclecar Garage, located in Richmond, VA).

In 1970, the Dodge Charger Daytona, driven by Buddy Baker, became the first car to break the 200 mph speed at NASCAR—a record that held for 17 years.

The Daytona is one of a few cars made by Dodge—including the Superbird—that are rarer in the car world and today, and a car this special could easily go for six figures while some could go for much more.

Although we have to admit, it doesn’t seem like Robert Masi is planning on selling this car just yet.
