U.S. 1, Florida Keys
Built in the 1930s and rebuilt in the 1980s, the 106-mile segment of U.S. 1 from Key Largo to Key West – an official Florida Scenic Highway =– offers magnificent ocean views. Between the middle of the lower Keys, you will find yourself traveling along the engineered marvel that is the Seven Mile Bridge (as its name suggests, spanning just about seven miles). With open blue seas stretching out on all sides, it’s a sight you will certainly find unforgettable when driving on one of the world’s longest bridges. If you choose to take the drive across all 106 miles, you will find yourself traversing from beautiful savanna lands to tropical islands and even to the largest area of coral reefs in the United States.
Detour: Take a side trip into Everglades National Park to explore the largest wilderness east of the Mississippi River.
