In The Indonesian Capital, You Can’t Drive Your Own Car One Day A Week
Finding ways for easing city traffic has caused local authorities around the world headaches for decades. Most big cities have found complex and innovative ways to combat this huge issue, by investing in infrastructure, public transportation, or encouraging people to carpool. In the Indonesian capital of Manila, however, they found a weird and inconvenient way of virtually eliminating a fifth of all city traffic: all cars are banned from the road on a random weekday, for three hours in the morning and four hours in the afternoon. A number is assigned to each license plate, determining the day you’re banned from driving within the city. In other words, even if you have a car, you’ll be taking the bus to work one day each week.
