Video: Merdeces-Benz SLS AMG with a Supercharger Going All Out on the Autobahn

You have got to love a car that can do 197 mph with traffic on the road.

This is a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG – a limited production, front-mid-engine, sports car produced between 2010 and 2014. It’s what Mercedes considers as the spiritual successor of the iconic 300SL Gullwing.

SLS stands for “Super Leicht Sport” – Super Light Sport. It’s powered by the first engine designed and produced entirely by AMG – a 6.2-liter, naturally-aspirated V8. It makes 563 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque and is able to push the 3,569-pound car at 196 miles per hour.

However, what you see in the video, is not the stock SLS. It’s been fitted with a supercharger by a German tuning company Elmerhaus. There is not a lot of information, but they claim to increase power by 30% and torque by 25% over the base SLS engine.

On their Instagram photo, the tuner says 740 hp, which checks out. We can reasonably expect an AMG-produced engine to make 30% more power and still work reliably with the proper modifications.

AutoTopNL, which produced the video, claims the SLS makes 1025 horsepower. A power increase of 82% is very hard to believe, without major re-engineering of the engine.

Even an AMG engine can’t last for too long working twice as hard, so it’s not likely a tuning company will do such a job for a client.
