Some people are just addicted to high speeds. They will find a way to go faster no matter what they drive – a car, a bike, a quad. You can put them behind a shopping carr and they’ll think of a way to break some speed record… and maybe some bones.
One such man is Zef Eisenberg – a UK race driver and builder of high-performance bikes and cars. Together with his MadMax Racing Team, Zef has broken numerous land speed records.
In 2017, he set a grievous land speed record – the fastest motorcycle crash in the UK. Zef crashed his motorcycle at 230 mph, leaving him in a hospital bed for three months and bound to a wheelchair for another three. Amazingly, in less than one year, Zef recovered and got back to the high-speed racing which almost killed him. That’s a classic addiction case.
Last May, he drove a pumped up Suzuki Hayabusa beyond 200mph Pendine Sands in Wales. Clocking 201.572mph, becoming the first person ever to achieve such speed at the 7-mile beach.
On the weekend of 6th-7th April 2019, Zef will be back on Pendine beach. This year, in addition to his supercharged Hayabusa, he’ll be bringing a Porsche 911 Turbo S. Zef will attempt to set a double high-speed record with a car and a bike.
On the bike, he’ll be competing against himself, trying to improve his benchmark from last year.
In the car, he’ll be trying to break the record of Idris Elba – the actor. In 2015, Elba drove a Bentley Continental GT Speed for two runs on a mile-long stretch at Pendine beach, averaging 180.361mph.
Four years later, Zef Eisenberg will take a shot of reaching 200mph for the same run in a jaw-dropping 1,200 hp Porsche 911 Turbo S. That figure is not arbitrary. Zef and his team calculated the necessary horsepower that will accelerate his car up to 200mph on sand within a mile.
MadMax Racing joined hands with ES Motors to build an entirely new 4.2-liter Porsche motorsport engine. The engine is specifically tuned to provide the power smoothly and reduce wheel spin while driving on the sand. The transmission, clutch, and brakes are upgraded to cope with more than double the power of the original Porsche. The suspension is also modified to accommodate special wheels and tires.
However, despite all the custom work, the Porsche remains road legal and Zef will be driving it to, on and from Pendine Sands.
