With only a year separating the release of the furious McLaren F1 and the Jaguar XJ220, the seriously impressive jump in top speed records saw English steal motoring dominance from the English with some mind-rattling numbers. 0-60 took 3.2 seconds, while 0-100 was dealt with in a Facebook-checking 6.3 seconds. The 6.1l BMW engine required a brand-new gearbox, as the original one was left obliterated by the ferocious torque. It was the first entirely carbon-fiber production car on earth, and the engine bay was lined with gold. Need we say more?
