Arriving in the Fall of 2019, the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe is a slightly sportier version of a sport utility vehicle that has taken the world by storm.
Including a variety of aesthetic as well as performance upgrades – this is a well considered variation that elevates the core brand identity – offering consumers a great new version of a well loved car.
Originally debuting in 2002, the original Porsche Cayenne was a bit of an iconoclast.
A rugged SUV produced by a German automaker known for its high performance, two-door coupes, was considered by many to be quite the major risk.
Now, 17 years later, it’s quite evident that gamble paid off: Porsche had its strongest year ever in 2018 and those sales numbers were driven by the, once considered unconventional, Porsche models like the Macan and Cayenne.
The Evolution of the Porsche Cayenne
Though the Cayenne Coupe is tremendously similar to the normal version, it offers a slightly more refined and sporty exterior look, without compromising passenger space or storage capacity. It’s roof is about an inch lower than the standard version. It’s rear width is likewise about an inch wider than normal.
To compensate, the back seats sit about an inch lower than they would in the normal variant so as not to sacrifice any room. While it looks and feels very similar to the normal 2020 Cayenne, the coupe design does offer some increased aerodynamics which translate into a more nimble and responsive driving experience.
While the original Cayenne has been described by Porsche purists as too large and boxy, the Cayenne Coupe attempts to win their love with its more sleek and sporty frame. With a base MSRP of $75,300, this is not an SUV for everyone but instead a luxury option for those with refined tastes.
The Lightweight Sport Package adds a supremely light and airy carbon fiber roof and 22-inch wheels adds $14,400 to the base price.
The Performance Package which features adaptive air suspension, rear-wheel-steering, and other goodies adds $4,900 to the base price. If you simply want Adaptive cruise control, that is available for a cool $2,000.
Quieter and gentler soft-close doors will add another $780. With a plethora of other options to add, it is very easy to take a 75K base price soaring into the range of 100K+.
A completely over the top and maxed out Cayenne Coupe Turbo will end up being closer to 170K once all is said and done.
Designed for Life, Built for Speed
The Cayenne Coupe, Cayenne Coupe S and Cayenne Coupé Turbo variants all have the same engines, suspensions, and mechanics. A 335-horsepower 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 is the centerpiece of the base model. It manages a brisk 0-60 time of 5.7 seconds.
Meanwhile, a 434-hp 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 in the S variant pushes that to time to 4.7 seconds. Finally, a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 in the Turbo model cuts that 0-60 time down to a lightning fast 3.7 seconds.
At speeds above 56 miles per hour, the 2020 Cayenne Coupe has a pretty cool adaptive 5.3 inch rear spoiler that deploys to increase downforce. The all-new Cayenne Coupe has a more powerful and aggressive profile thanks to redesigned rear doors, and quarter panels which help accentuate the car’s muscular look.
The 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe will launch in the U.S. for a 2020 model year in fall 2019. Starting MSRP for the Cayenne Coupe is $75,300, and $130,100 for the Cayenne Turbo Coupe.
