With over 48 hairpin curves, this gorgeous James Bond movie-set of a road winds its way down (or up) a mountain in the Italian Alps. The famous British motoring show Top Gear voted it the best road in Europe for obvious reasons. Several cycling and driving events are held here for those endowed with a point to prove and fuel to burn. It’s no wonder, the Passo dello Stelvio is as alluring as it is grim, and if you can resist the urge to drive like an Italian, the ascent (or descent) can be made safely providing you take extreme caution when overtaking and making those tight bends.
