We’re just hours away from the unveiling of the C8, which has been highly anticipated by Corvette fans. On Monday, Chevy announced that its new mid-engine Corvette would have a Stingray trim in its reveal, reminiscent of the previous generation C7.
Rumors of an LT7 engine suggest that a turbocharged Corvette could be in the works, but it’s unlikely that such an engine would be included in the reveal of the C8 today. Instead, some sources indicate that an LT7 would be reserved for a performance model of the mid-engine next-generation Corvette.
The engine is rumored to be built on a similar foundation as the 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8 we’re expecting to see in newer Cadillacs, which is also nicknamed the “Blackwing” V8. If the LT7 engine will indeed be designed around the Blackwing concept, Chevy would need to make some adjustments in order to get more horsepower than the current generation Corvettes.
Of course, as the C8 isn’t yet revealed, we can’t say whether or not it’ll have the expected seven-speed automatic transmission, but based on a video of the C8 at Nurburgring, we’re thinking it will.
The C8 is scheduled to be revealed in Orange County, California at 7:30 p.m. local time (that’s in PDT) today. Some lucky fans will get to see the reveal in-person and attend C8 events both Thursday and Friday thanks to tickets auctioned off by the National Corvette Museum.
GM hasn’t commented about the engine of the C8, and as we’re so close to the reveal, we can only wait for what the next few hours will tell us.
